The multilayer basalt tube is a new type of composite core that combines a high-performance basalt fiber, high-strength stainless steel tubing, a communication element (optical fibers, coax or copper wires) with an optional polyamide, polyethylene or high-density polyethylene cover. This composite cable core has excellent properties: lightweight, high grade strength, high temperature resistant, low conduction loss and low sag.
The cable is based on a new high-tech material, the fibres of basalt, an alkaline volcanic rock. The material was originally used for the thermal insulation of nuclear reactors and is now being further developed as a material blend that prevents virtually any cable breakage. Frequent repairs due to a cable breakage are now a thing of the past. Its unique properties make it virtually indestructible, non-breakable and yet retains its functionality at very high temperatures.
Depending on the required task, the stainless steel tube is simultaneously configured with a varying number of optical and/or copper conductors for the transmission of control and data signals. Despite its outstanding protective properties, the new hybrid cable is extremely lightweight, unlike armored cables, for example. Its intended use is permanent installation, for example, for the wiring of buildings and tunnels.
In addition to our expertise in the production and processing of fiber composite components / assemblies, we have expanded our portfolio to include the manufacture of sliding cables and hybrid cables. The cable is based on a new high-tech material. In this process, data transmission elements (star quad, coaxial cable) are protected entirely according to customer requirements by stable, thin basalt or glass fiber rods. These cables are thus extremely resistant, very flexible, have a high restoring force and can also withstand immense mechanical forces.
Despite their good shear stability, the hybrid cables are comparatively light and flexible. The hybrid cable is HD-ready and could therefore easily transmit high-resolution video material without any problems.
Basalt is a basic volcanic rock characterized by compressive and wear resistance. Due to its properties, it was originally intended as an insulating material for nuclear reactors, but is now also used in CG TEC's composite cables. Cable breakage or other damages are almost impossible due to this material mix.
Exact technical specifications can be found in the corresponding data sheets, but here is a brief overview of some key data:
The cables are characterized by their flexibility as well as elasticity and have a very small bending radius, whereby even bends of more than 120° are possible.
We develop and produce innovative fiber composite high-tech solutions. The core competence lies in the production of round and flat profiles, sheets, rods and complete components.
